Date: April 20, 2016 - 4:11pm to April 25, 2016 - 4:11pm

The City of Urbana is pleased to announce that Urbana Public Television will receive three awards at the 4th Annual Best of the Midwest Media Fest and Awards Banquet.

The banquet recognizes the best community access television programs in the Midwest.

UPTV community producer Jacob Bernard will receive an award for the second straight year as he is being recognized for his work producing Friday Night Live.  Bernard along with camera operator Henry Radcliffe III filmed musical performances every week at the popular summer concert series in downtown Champaign.

“We are very lucky to have talented producers like Jacob and Henry to help capture many of the great events happening in Urbana-Champaign,” commented Production Coordinator, Jason Liggett. UPTV Station Manager Jake Schumacher added, “This is a great recognition of what community access media is all about—the dedication, talent and hard work of volunteers that results in excellence documenting our community’s day-to-day life.”

UPTV’s feature story on the Sim Hackberry Tree in Urbana will receive an Achievement Award in the professional category of Short Form Documentary/Featurette.  The video, produced by Liggett, follows the story of Urbana’s first legacy tree which is now being processed at the Autumn Mill in Argenta, Illinois.

UPTV will also be recognized for their work with Urbana Middle School students through the Urbana Park District’s SPLASH program. The students produced a newscast, UMS News Flash, which will receive an Excellence Award for being the Best Program Produced by Youth in the Magazine Format/News category.

Liggett will attend the Awards Banquet on April 28th in Madison, Wisconsin.
