Silverwood

Silverwood In celebration of the Day of Peace, the neighborhood encompassed by Silver and Vawter Streets in southern Urbana has recommitted itself to peace. The neighborhood was recently rebranded and has changed their name to Silverwood.

The process started last year when Giovanna Dibenedetto realized that the good people of her neighborhood could no longer accept the violence in the area. So, there were meetings on ideas on how to get this accomplished. They also decided they needed to do what so  many successful companies, corporations and even municipalities do: they rebranded their neighborhood and adopted the name "Silverwood." Peace poles were made at the International Day of Peace and Silverwood Neighborhood celebration and will be placed around the community to remind those of the idea that peace works.

So, on September 21, 2019, with so many from the community present to celebrate, the Silverwood neighborhood was officially designated a place where peace exists. A specal thanks to the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Samuel Smith, Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin, Urbana Public Works Department, Champaign Urbana Area Project, Community Coalition, the Urbana Park District, the Urbana Rotary Club, and the good people of Silverwood.
