City of Urbana Special Census
United States Field Representative will come to you and assist you with taking the Special Census. The City of Urbana is conducting a partial Special Census in an effort to correct the inaccurate resident count during the most recent 2020 Decennial Census.
Out-of-state and international students are Urbana residents and should be counted, too! Census population counts are important because that is how funds for social services, transportation services, and many other services are allocated.
At this time, the period for online self-response has closed. The three steps for counting currently are as follows:
- Now, the Census Bureau will conduct follow-up operations in the field to enumerate homes, apartments, and other residences that did not respond using the internet self-response instrument, as well as residences that did not receive mailed materials.
- Official Census Bureau field representatives will begin knocking on residence doors in mid-October to conduct an in-person Special Census interview. The field operations will also enumerate group quarters (dorms and other university housing) and transitory locations.
- If the field representative is not able to reach anyone in a residence, an information card will be left. At least one resident should call that number and then take the Census over the phone with a field representative.
