UPTV Wins Regional Awards

UHS Fall Sports PreviewThe City of Urbana is pleased to announce that Urbana Public Television will receive three awards at the 6th Annual Best of the Midwest Media Fest and Awards Banquet. The banquet recognizes the best community access television programs in the Midwest.

Urbana High School senior Joey Wright will be recognized for his production of the UHS Fall Sports Preview Show. Joey has been broadcasting Urbana High School sporting events and graduation ceremonies since 2015.

“Joey has shown great work ethic over the past four years. I’m thrilled to see him recognized on a regional level for his talents and can’t wait to say, I knew him when…” commented UPTV Production Coordinator, Jason Liggett.

LRC now open Saturdays!

The Landscape Recycling Center is now open Monday - Saturday from 8 am – 4 pm for the 2018 Spring/Summer growing season.

2018 is the year to spring into sustainability with the help of LRC! If you have yard waste from Spring clean-up, drop if off to LRC anytime during regular business hours. Never been to the site before? Click on the video below which shows how the site operates and explains how to prepare your materials for a quick, easy drop-off.

While you’re at LRC, check out all of the recycled landscaping products made from local yard debris and other reclaimed materials. From rich compost and shredded/chipped mulches to firewood, recycled asphalt, brick pavers and granite fines, when you buy from LRC you are getting quality products AND supporting the environment in a big way.

Note: Due to operational limitations, LRC can only load free bulk wood on Tuesday – Friday beginning April 1. Self-load is available anytime.

Four Finalists Selected in City Administrator Search

The City of Urbana is pleased to announce the selection of four finalists for the position of City Administrator at the City of Urbana. In alphabetical order, the finalists are:

  • John M. Burt, Town Manager, Town of Groton, Groton, CT.
  • Elizabeth A. Hannan, Finance Director, City of Urbana, Urbana, IL.
  • Angel L. Jones, Senior Consultant/Project Manager, NOVAD Management Consulting.
  • Carol J. Mitten, Deputy County Manager, Arlington County Government, Arlington, VA.

City Employees Raise Funds for Special Olympics

Eight City of Urbana employees recently participated in the Polar Plunge.  In an effort to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois, participants of the Polar Plunge collect donations of at least $100 each and then “plunge” into Lake of the Woods in Mahomet.

  • Josh Jeffers - Urbana Police Department
  • Jason Liggett - Executive Department
  • Takela Lucas - Finance Department
    Eric Ruff - Urbana Police Department
  • Rachel Storm - Community Development Department
  • Jonathan Yeagle - Urbana Police Department 

The group raised over $1,000 for Special Olympics Illinois.  The Urbana Police Department participates in several events throughout the year to raise money for Special Olympics Illinois.  They hope to raise $5,000 in 2018.
