LRC Rewards Dropoffs of Leaves and Branches With Discount Coupon

Area residents and commercial landscapers/haulers who bring leaves or branches to the Landscape Recycling Center from October 16 through December 2 can receive a 20% discount coupon to use when buying LRC products.

Residents must bring a minimum of 1 cubic yard, or about 9 standard-size yard waste bags, to LRC’s facility at 1210 E. University Ave., in Urbana to qualify for the coupon.

Commercial landscapers or haulers must bring 2 cubic yards or more to receive the discount coupon. There is a limit of one coupon awarded per week.

Coupons can be redeemed anytime until March 31, 2018 to save 20% on LRC products. The following rules apply:

Solar Urbana-Champaign 2.0 Closes Another Successful Round

logo Solar Urbana-Champaign 2.0 has come to a close with 447 kilowatts (kW) of clean solar energy contracted for installation on 58 homes and businesses in Champaign County. Congratulations to all who participated! You are helping make your community cleaner and more energy independent!

As a whole, we estimate that the 58 participants will save over $57,000 in utility costs their first year, producing a combined total of over 522,000 kWh of clean solar energy annually. The environmental benefits of the Solar UC program are equally impressive. We estimate that over 639,000 pounds of CO2 and nearly 10 million gallons of water will be offset in the first year alone by using this renewable source of energy rather than fossil fuel generated electricity.

Building Safety Division Launches Online Program for Housing Inspections & Rental Registration

The City of Urbana recently launched a new online system for managing building permits, code enforcement, and other request tracking. Using a cloud-based program called Citizenserve, many of the City’s Building Safety-related applications, requests for payment, and customer request forms, are now available online. In addition, Citizenserve will now provide the capability to accept both tenant and neighborhood complaints online.

Within the next few days, Urbana rental property owners will receive their annual registration notice and form in the mail. The mailing will also include instructions for accessing the City’s Rental Registration portal and instructions for registering online here.

The Urbana Art Expo is a one-day juried fine art exhibition and sale, presented by the Urbana Public Arts Program in collaboration with 40 North.

The event is free and open to the public, so come out, invite your friends, and show your support for local art!
