Plans for Proposed Roadway Lighting Improvements
Construction of new streetlighting is planned for Illinois Street, Gregory Street, and Oregon Street and is scheduled to start the week of June 5th. The project is expected to end in late October 2017. The new streetlights will resemble the streetlights currently on Goodwin Avenue adjacent to the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts except the lamp will be a LED lamp instead of a metal halide lamp as is installed on Goodwin Avenue. This project is 100% funded from the City of Urbana’s Motor Vehicle Parking System Fund.
The proposed improvements consist of roadway lighting removal and replacement, installation of underground conduit and cables and other incidental work. The proposed roadway lighting improvements are located along Oregon Street from Mathews Avenue to Lincoln Avenue, Gregory Street from Oregon Street to Illinois Street, and Illinois Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue in the City of Urbana. The City of Urbana will oversee the construction of this project.
The contractor on this $518,681 project, Champaign Signal and Lighting Company, will maintain pedestrian access along the project corridor although sidewalk segments may be temporarily closed and pedestrians routed to a sidewalk on the opposite side of the street. Closing of entrance/exit to the adjacent properties is expected to be minimal.
The project is expected to run from June through October. The contractor intends, weather permitting, to complete a majority of the work this summer. Work will commence on Gregory Street, then move to Illinois Street, and finish on Oregon Street.
Information about the project will be posted at http://www.urbanaillinois.us/IllinoisGregoryOregonLights.
The City thanks you in advance for your patience and cooperation.
