Urbana High School 5K Run/Walk Closures

Urbana High School will be conducting a 5K Run/Walk Fundraiser on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.


The run/walk portion of the event will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The race will begin at the intersection of Washington Street and Broadway Avenue and will take the following route:

2015 Storm Sewer Cleaning and Televising Project

Beginning Thursday, October 1, 2015 National Power Rodding Corp. from Chicago, Illinois will be performing sewer cleaning and televising inspections for 33,800 lineal feet of storm sewer pipe at various locations around Urbana.


The cleaning and televising of the storm sewers allows the City to maintain the integrity of the storm sewer system by ensuring that it is functioning properly and identifying deficiencies in the sewer pipes that need to be repaired. This is done with robotic cameras, vacuum excavation equipment, and high pressure water cleaning equipment.

One or more travel lanes of a street may be closed at the cleaning and televising locations to accommodate the Contractor’s equipment and set-up. Generally, cleaning and televising are completed within one day at the location so any traffic impacts will be temporary.

Lincoln Avenue Lane Closure

October 5, 2015 - 7:00am to October 12, 2015 - 5:00pm

Weather permitting, the right lane for southbound traffic on Lincoln Avenue will be closed between Fairview Avenue and Church Street on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for saw cutting pavement patches.


Weather permitting, the right lane for southbound traffic on Lincoln Avenue will then be closed between Fairview Avenue and Hill Street beginning Monday, October 5, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. until Monday, October 12, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. for pavement repairs. Lincoln Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the pavement repairs.


Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this improvement is in progress.

Kerr Avenue Closure

Kerr Avenue between Broadway Avenue and Division Avenue will be open to through traffic starting 7 a.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

West Church Street Lane Closure

September 18, 2015 - 4:00am to 8:00am

Weather permitting, the eastbound lane of Church Street between Coler Avenue and Orchard Street will be closed from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 2015, to move equipment for Carle Hospital. Church Street will remain open to traffic at all times during this period.


Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all work areas. Thank you for your cooperation while this work is in progress.

George Huff Drive and Grange Drive Intersection Closure

September 14, 2015 - 7:00am to September 16, 2015 - 10:00am

Weather permitting, the intersection of George Huff Drive and Grange Drive will be closed to through traffic starting at 7:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14, 2015, to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, for a water main installation. There will be no detour route for this closure.


Access will be maintained to all properties on George Huff Drive and Grange Drive during the water main installation.


Traffic delays are anticipated due to the lane reduction so motorists are urged to consider using an alternative route. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas.

DRAFT FY1415 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) Available for Public Review and Comment

The City of Urbana has completed the draft Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) documenting programs and activities undertaken through its federally-funded affordable housing and community development programs during the year ending June 30, 2015. The draft CAPER will be available for public review and comment during the period beginning Wednesday, September 9, 2015 through Thursday, September 24, 2015. The draft CAPER will be available during regular business hours at the following locations:

University Avenue Lane Closure

Weather permitting, the outside west bound lane of traffic on University Avenue will be closed between Lincoln Avenue and Goodwin Avenue starting on Tuesday September 8, 2015 at 7:00 A.M. to Friday September 11, 2015 at 3:30 P.M. for the Campus Circle Project. University Avenue will remain open to traffic at all times during the construction work.

U-Cycle Holiday Schedule

Due to the Labor Day holiday, U-Cycle route collections will be delayed one day during the week of September 7.  The Monday U-Cycle route will be collected Tuesday, Tuesday's route on Wednesday, etc.  Please continue to place recycling out by 7 am to ensure collection.

Labor Day Parade Street Closures

September 7, 2015 - 10:00am to 11:00am

On Monday, September 7, 2015 the Champaign County AFL/CIO will be conducting their annual Labor Day parade from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Streets along the parade route will be closed immediately preceding the approach of the parade.


The parade route is as follows:



  • Begin at Illinois Street and Broadway Avenue;

  • South on Broadway Avenue to Washington Street;

  • East on Washington Street;

  • End at the Brookens Administrative Center, 1776 East Washington Street.

Each street along the parade route will be reopened after the parade passes through each intersection.

University Avenue Lane Closure
