Florida Avenue Lane Closure

Weather permitting, the eastbound lane of Florida Avenue between Lincoln Avenue and Orchard Street will be closed for pavement repairs beginning 8:00 a.m. on Monday, October 21, 2013 through 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013.

Two detours will be maintained during this project:

  1. Southbound on Lincoln Avenue to Windsor Road, then east on Windsor Road to Race Street, then north on Race Street to Florida Avenue
  2. Northbound on Lincoln Avenue to Pennsylvania Avenue, then east on Pennsylvania Avenue to Race Street, then south on Race Street to Florida Avenue

The westbound lane of Florida Avenue will remain open at all times.

Beslin Street Closure

August 28, 2013 - 5:00pm

Weather permitting, Beslin Street from Romine Street to Goodwin Avenue will be closed to one lane of traffic starting Thursday, August 22, 2013 at 7:00 a.m. through Wednesday, August 28, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. for pavement reconstruction.

Through traffic will be permitted during this time but will be restricted to one lane at the intersection of Mathews Avenue and Beslin Street.

Gregory Street Closure

July 15, 2013 - 7:00am to July 31, 2013 - 5:00pm

Weather permitting, Gregory Street at Illinois Street will be closed to thru traffic from 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 15, 2013 to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 for removal and replacement of steam tunnel.

There will be no detour.

Mathews Avenue and Eads Street Closures

July 9, 2013 - 8:00am to July 26, 2013 - 5:00pm

Weather permitting, the Mathews Avenue-Church Street Improvement Project will begin construction on Tuesday, July 9, 2013. Stage one of construction will close Mathews Avenue from south of Ellis Drive to the north edge of Beech Street and will close Eads Street at Mathews Avenue from July 9, 2013 to July 26, 2013.

Marked detour routes will be created utilizing Ellis Drive, Beech Street, Goodwin Avenue, and Romine Street. All dates mentioned are subject to change depending on weather and work progress. Further updates will follow as work progresses.

August 9, 2022 - 9:00am to August 11, 2022 - 4:00pm


The City of Urbana Fire Department has scheduled maintenance for all outdoor tornado warning sirens located in the city on August 9, 2022, through August 11, 2022. On these dates, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., each siren will be inspected for functionality.  

Each inspection will include a short (5 – 10 seconds) audible test which will make the sirens activate. Please note this is scheduled maintenance and not an emergency.

In the case of unfavorable weather, the maintenance will be canceled and rescheduled for another time. An updated press release will be published if this should occur.

CLOSED Request for Proposal: Automotive Repair Services 2009 Ford Escape (Solicitation # 2223-03)

The City of Urbana is seeking proposals for automotive repair body shops to repair damages to the following vehicle or equipment: Year/Make/Model: 2009 Ford Escape Known/Observed Damages: Front end body repair and damaged radiator.

Proposals will be accepted from repairers until August 12, at 10:00 a.m. CDT.

Proposals must be submitted electronically (pdf format) to the Urbana Public Works Department, Fleet Supervisor via e-mail to with the following format:

subject heading of "Company Name – Automotive Repair Services Proposal for City of Urbana – 2009 Ford Escape (MU02-09).”

The City of Urbana reserves the right to reject any and all proposals received.

The award of contract will be made by the Public Works Director, with recommendations from the Fleet Supervisor, and the decision will be final.

American Rescue Plan Act Listening Session

April 5, 2022 - 5:30pm to 7:30pm

Join us for a Listening Session sponsored by the City of Urbana from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2022 in the Urbana City Council Chambers.

No official action will be taken.

There will be a brief introduction followed by an opportunity for public input.

Everyone who wishes to speak is also encouraged to complete a survey, available on our ARPA website accessible via the following link: urbana-arpa

We are interested in hearing more about:

  • Which one of the following priorities is/are the most important? 1) Sustainable Infrastructure 2) Human Rights and Social Services 3) Public Health and Safety 4) Adequate and Affordable Housing 5) Economic Recovery and Development.
  • What are the outcomes that you would like to see from the use of ARPA funds?
  • Do you have specific ideas for funding projects or programs related to the priority areas?

The City of Urbana and other local partners are hosting a bulk rain barrel and compost bin sale.  Order at  Subsidies for barrels are available with the following conditions:

Champaign Stormwater Utility Fee payers can apply for $29 subsidies for unlimited barrels using this form

Urbana Stormwater Utility Fee payers are limited to the purchase of 2 subsidized barrels and can apply for $25 subsidies using this form
