Commemorate the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Date: February 18, 2013 (All day)

Please join the City of Urbana as we help spread the word about the many upcoming events commemorating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the Sesquicentennial of the Emancipation Proclamation.

These events are scheduled to take place throughout the months of January and February.

Each year, these events bring together the University of Illinois campus and Urbana and Champaign communities to celebrate Dr. King's vision and legacy. The City of Urbana is delighted to share the following information with our residents and the entire community.

This year's theme is: "The Beloved Community Begins Here: From Emancipation to Unity." There are four planning committees:

  • MLK Countywide Planning Committee
  • MLK Advocacy for Justice Committee
  • U of I Chancellor's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Committee
  • Sesquicentennial of the Emancipation Proclamation Planning Committee

To learn more about these events, please visit the planning committee's Facebook page or click on any of the documents below to view specific event information.
