Urbana Bike Plan to be Recognized

The Illinois Municipal Policy Journal has selected the City of Urbana to be featured in its upcoming fall 2018 publication. Specifically, the feature will concentrate on the Urbana Bicycle Master Plan, a comprehensive strategy that improves bicycle transportation in and around the City.

"Our collected data states that 6.7 percent of Urbana residents bike to work," Lauren Crabtree of the IMPJ said.

The data also states that bicycle fatalities have decreased by 6 percent in Urbana. Crabtree said that is greatly significant and indicates the intense work that Urbana has put into bike travel is having positive results.

Artist of the Corridor Exhibition

Urbana Public Arts Program Announces An Artist of the Corridor Exhibition by Christopher Evans

SCENES OF DOWNTOWN is a collection of illustrated works exploring Downtown Urbana and its people in a wide variety of settings--from cafes to public parks, music venues to markets. These pictures are original sketches done on site, as it happens. The artist sketches the life around him as he sits in a coffee shop, a tavern, or listens to live music. Every attempt is made to present the facts as they present themselves, letting the scene express whatever beauty there might be in ordinary life. Come witness a capturing of the uniqueness of Downtown Urbana.

BIke to Work Day is May 1

Date:
May 1, 2018 - 7:00am to 10:00am

Bike to Work Day is an annual event that celebrates those who ride a bicycle. Whether you commute to work by bike every single day or just want to give it a try for the first time this year, this event celebrates you! This is the one day each year that our region formally recognizes bicycling as an everyday form of transportation.

On May 1, we challenge you to bike to work or class, and in return, we will provide stations and snacks and encouragement along the way. Registration for Bike to Work Day includes a free t-shirt that you can pick up at any of our stations.

Find a station near your home or workplace on the map on the bottom of the Bike To Work Day webpage. In 2018, there will be 12 stations throughout Urbana-Champaign.
