Community Violence Response Efforts

The Community Coalition Community Violence Response Team invites you to a space where you will be provided information about resources, safety, and available support.

We want to hear from you! Upcoming Neighborhood Safety Meeting Neighborhood Safety Meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. on December 5 at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, located at 1108 Fairview in Urbana. These Safety Meetings are less formal and are designed to engage neighbors and community members in conversations about violence and safety and to help us understand needs and resources in targeted communities. Public Works Director Candidates Meet with Staff

UPW DirectorCandidates for our next Urbana Public Works Director were on hand at the local Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System building (ILEAS) on November 22, 2019 to speak to and with the City of Urbana Staff. The candidates answered a series of questions, and then fielded questions and commented on remarks from the floor from attending staff. Scott's Law: The "Move Over" Law

The "Move Over" Law -- Scott's Law mandates that when approaching any police or other emergency vehicle stopped along the roadway, you must:

  • proceed with due caution
  • change lanes if possible
  • reduce your speed

An authorized emergency vehicle under Scott's Law, includes ANY vehicle authorized by law to be equipped with oscillating, rotating, or flashing lights under Section 12-215 of this Code, while the owner or operator of the vehicle is engaged in his or her official duties.

The Urbana Police Department wants everyone to be safe this holiday season.

"As we approach this holiday season, we at the Urbana Police Department would ask all drivers to move over for emergency vehicles who are out doing their jobs," Chief Bryant Seraphin said.
