Murals Programs

Murals on Glass and Utility Box Mural Programs

Urbana Arts and Culture Commission invites artists residing in Champaign County to participate in an initiative to feature local artworks on downtown Urbana windows and the newly added Utility Box Mural Program. Up to five selected pieces will be reproduced in adhesive vinyl and adhered to selected locations: one municipal building and up to four utility boxes in Urbana's Downtown. Murals on Glass and the new Utility Box Mural program not only make a more vibrant downtown, but also provide opportunities and direct support for local artists.

The 2019 Murals on Glass selected building is:

Cunningham Township (205 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois 61801)

About the mission of the Cunningham Township: "Township is about neighbors helping neighbors. Since 1928, our Cunningham Township Supervisor’s Office has been funded by Urbana residents to support low-income Urbana residents. As a hyper local office, we are able move nimbly to provide life-saving support for households dealing with the devastations of homelessness, joblessness, or disability. Every day we have residents walk in having one of the worst days of their lives. Sometimes they are sleeping outside or in their car. Often they face discrimination and a long history of trauma and abuse. We are asking the local artists help design a mural that will greet their neighbors in need with images of resiliency, hope, and social justice in the face of life challenge and systemic oppression." -Danielle Chynoweth, Cunningham Township Supervisor. Learn more:
