Airport Road Closure
Airport Road will be closed to through traffic from Willow Road to Cunningham Avenue (US 45) at 7:00 am Monday, May 22, 2017 until further notice. Access to Frasca International, Inc., and the residences/businesses on Airport Road west of Willow Road will be via a detour route from Napleton Way-Anthony Drive-Willow Road. Access to Farm and Fleet will be via Napleton Way.
The project consists of the reconstruction of Airport Road from a narrow two-lane chip and seal road to a new three-lane concrete street. The improvements also consist of the installation of a new drainage system with curbs/gutters, storm sewers and drainage basins, as well as modifications to the traffic signals at the Airport Road and Cunningham Avenue intersection. Farnsworth Group, Inc. of Champaign, Illinois, is the engineering consultant for the project.
Construction will begin in May 2017 with the pavement work expected to wrap up in November 2017, weather permitting. Landscaping of the project corridor is expected to be complete by May 2018. Feutz Contractors, Inc. of Paris, Illinois, is the project contractor.
The cost of the project is $2,223,395. The project is funded using a combination of Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Economic Development Program (EDP) and Truck Access Route Program (TARP) funds and local Tax Increment Financing funds. The IDOT EDP funding will improve street access to Frasca International, Inc., who plans to expand its business. The IDOT TARP funds are upgrading Airport Road to accommodate 80,000-pound truck loads also to Frasca International, Inc.
