IDOT Public Information Meeting
The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will hold an Open House Public Information Meeting in Urbana on Thursday, June 8, 2017 to discuss safety improvements to US 150 (University Ave.) from Wright St. to Cunningham Ave. in Urbana. This project is included in the current IDOT Multi-Year Program.
The Public Information Meeting will be held at the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District building at 1101 East University Ave. in Urbana. Those interested are invited to attend any time from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Representatives from IDOT will be present to provide information, receive input, answer questions and take written or oral statements regarding this project. There will not be a formal presentation.
Proposed safety improvements consist of resurfacing US 150 on Wright St. from north of White St. to University Ave. and on University Ave. from Wright St. to Maple St. Other improvements will include ADA sidewalk and ramp improvements, LED street lighting, traffic signal modernization with flashing yellow arrow, recessed pavement markings, and new curb and gutter.
The proposed improvements require the purchase of right-of-way along portions of the project. Utility adjustments will also be required within the proposed construction limits. Details regarding the proposed improvements and right-of-way will be available at this meeting.
This meeting will also serve to involve and obtain public input for purposes of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Information will be available on known historic resources that may be affected by the proposed project and the historic resources protection process. IDOT requests comments by the public on effects to historic resources to assist in consultation with the Illinois State Historic Preservation Officer.
The proposed project involves the use of land from Leal Park. Approximately 0.038 acres out of 2.6 acres are to be acquired by the state to improve the sidewalk along University Ave. and will not affect the park’s attributes. Through publication of this notice, IDOT is requesting public input on the proposed use of the park land.
