Date:
January 20, 2016 - 5:00pm to January 21, 2016 - 5:00pm

At 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 20, 2016, the Urbana Public Works Director will declare the sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement in effect for the Downtown, University and South Philo Road snow removal districts.

Due to the winter storm, ice and/or two inches or more of snow has accumulated on sidewalks. In order to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, City ordinance requires that public sidewalks, within the defined districts, be cleared by adjacent property owners within 24 hours after the Public Works Director’s declaration. Sidewalks need to be cleared by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 21, 2016. Public sidewalks within these districts, which are not in compliance, could be cleared by the City at the expense of the adjacent property owner, with additional fines and administrative fees applied.

Maps of the snow removal districts, snow and ice abatement methods and other information regarding the snow removal ordinance can be found on the City’s website at: http://urbanaillinois.us/businesses/sidewalk-snow-removal.

2015 Sewer Lining Project

Date:
April 1, 2016 - 5:00pm

The City of Urbana is lining 11,000 lineal feet of storm and sanitary sewer pipe to improve the integrity of both sewer systems. Beginning Thursday, December 17, 2015 Hoerr Construction, Inc. from Peoria, Illinois will be performing sewer cleaning, inspections, and lining at various locations in Urbana.

The cured-in-place pipe lining process relies on trenchless sewer reconstruction technology that does not involve time consuming, expensive and disruptive open excavations. Instead of digging up and replacing the old pipe, the cured-in-place process provides for the insertion of a special liner inside the existing pipe. The new liner creates a watertight, smooth-surfaced, structurally sound, and long-lasting pipe within the existing sewer.

Maps of the areas affected by sewer cleaning and televising are available on the City’s website at: http://urbanaillinois.us/projects/2015-sewer-lining-project.
