Aqua-Town: A Future Hydrohistory was created this spring by its cast and Director Andrea Del Moral through a series of theatrical explorations and research related to local history and climate change. Set between the years 2020 and 2070, the performance uses image, theater, music, and movement to explore how people will respond to the eminent climate change in the Midwest in coming decades. Characters slip between simultaneous futures in their yearning and struggle for a livable 21st Century.

Quotes: “The Change of State Performance Project speaks to important issues about our local natural resources. Creative projects like Aquatown address--literally-- the ground we stand on.” -Sarah Ross, Public Arts Commissioner, Urbana Public Arts Program

“The Change of State Performance Project ensemble moved me through high water, shaping my mind with their artful movements and sounds, yet ultimately bending me away from complacency and toward higher ground regarding "other people's" floods -Diane Gere, Environmental Justice Teacher, Davenport, IA

“Attention to local water management is growing – rain gardens, prairie restoration, Prairie Rivers Network, Mahomet Aquifer Project – as a director working on the West Coast around water issues, I devised the project out of curiosity as to how people are approaching really different water issues in the Champaign County area, in the context of water becoming a mainstream, forefront issue worldwide. There's quite a lot of innovation here – many people are beginning to think about it and take action.” -Andrea del Moral, director, Change of State Performance Project

Additional Information: Aquatown: A Future Hydrohistory is partially funded by a City of Urbana Arts Grant.
