Urbana Sidewalk Snow Removal Requirements in Effect

Date:
February 6, 2014 - 9:30am to February 7, 2014 - 12:00pm

As of 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2014, the Urbana Public Works Director has declared the sidewalk snow and ice removal requirement in effect for the Downtown, University, and South Philo Road snow removal districts.

Due to the winter storm, snow has accumulated to two inches or more on sidewalks. In order to make sidewalks safe for pedestrians, City ordinance requires that public sidewalks within the defined districts be cleared by adjacent property owners within 24 hours after the Public Works Director’s declaration. Sidewalks need to be cleared by 9:30 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2014. Public sidewalks within these districts which are not in compliance could be cleared by the City at the expense of the adjacent property owner, with additional fines and administrative fees applied.

Maps of the snow removal districts and other information regarding the snow removal ordinance can be found on the City’s website at http://urbanaillinois.us/businesses/sidewalk-snow-removal.
