Romine Street & Mathews Avenue Closure, Wright Street Lane Reduction

Weather permitting, from 7:00 a.m. Thursday, September 14, 2017 through 5:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 a sewer lining project will be performed by Insituform for the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District.

The following streets will be impacted:

Wright Street will be reduced to one lane between West Eads Street and West Beech Street
Romine Street will be closed to thru traffic between West Eads Street and West Beech Street
Mathews Avenue will be closed to thru traffic between West Eads Street and West Beech Street

Access will be maintained to all properties on Wright Street, Romine Street and Mathews Avenue. No thru traffic will be permitted on Romine Street and Mathews Avenue between Eads Street and Beech Street.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project

North Lincoln Avenue Lane Closures

The North Lincoln Avenue Resurfacing Project has been awarded by the City of Urbana to Open Road Paving Company from Urbana, Illinois. The project award amount is $1,031,669.41. This project is being funded by State Motor Fuel Tax Funds.

The project consists of pavement patching; curb and gutter removal and replacement; sidewalk ramp removal and replacement; pavement resurfacing; pavement marking; and other miscellaneous work on Lincoln Avenue. Periodic lane closures can be expected starting Tuesday, September 12, 2017 and ending Friday, November 3, 2017.

Target in Champaign, along with TerraCycle, will be offering car seat recycling in store starting Sunday, September 10, 2017 - September 23, 2017.

If you have an old car seat to recycle this is the only opportunity locally.

Urbana to Host Ribbon Cutting for Completion of the Bradley Avenue Bike Lanes Project

The design update of a portion of Bradley Avenue in Urbana is complete. The Bradley Avenue Bike Lane Project, proposed in the 2016 Urbana Bicycle Master Plan, extends west on Bradley Avenue from Lincoln Avenue to the western city limit of Urbana.

Previously, Bradley Avenue was a forty-foot, two-lane road that posed safety concerns for all roadway users. A key component of the updated layout on Bradley Avenue includes narrowing of the travel lanes and the addition of a six-foot wide buffer and four-foot bike lane on the eastern portion of the roadway. The western portion of the roadway now includes narrowed and shared parking/biking lanes. The shared lanes will accommodate not only bicyclists, but also the pedestrian and vehicular traffic occurring on Bradley Avenue.

According to Urbana Public Works Director Bill Gray, “The bike lanes and two-lane pavement striping have added clear definition of the driver’s and bicyclist’s space, which will result in less confusion and greater safety for all users.”

Sealed BIDS for the construction of the Vine Street Resurfacing Project (City Section 17-00588-00-RS) including: hot-mix asphalt mainline; hot-mix asphalt surface removal; pavement patching; curb and gutter removal and replacement; sidewalk curb ramp removal and replacement; and other incidental work will be received by the City of Urbana at the office of the Director of Public Works, 706 Glover Avenue, Urbana, Illinois 61802 until 1:55 p.m. prevailing time on Friday, September 15th, 2017 and publicly opened and read aloud at 2:00 p.m. at said office.
