Surface Seal Placement on Various Streets

The City of Urbana has contracted with Corrective Asphalt Materials, LLC to place a surface seal on newly improved asphalt pavements that is intended to help the City extend the life of our pavements. Surface seal will be placed on the following streets throughout the City of Urbana

  • Green Street – Vine Street to Cottage Grove Avenue
  • Main Street - Dewey Street to University Avenue
  • Mumford Drive – Zuppke Drive to Anderson Street
  • Park Street - McCullough Street to Broadway Avenue
  • Philo Road - South City Limits to south of Windsor Road
  • Philo Road – Colorado Avenue to Florida Avenue
  • Vine Street - Colorado Avenue to Florida Avenue
  • Washington Street - Pfeffer Road to High Cross Road
  • Windsor Road – Boulder Drive to High Cross Road

This work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2017. The entire project is anticipated to be complete by 5:00 p.m. Friday, August 18, 2017.

Electronics Recycling Event - Registration Opens September 5

The next residential electronics recycling event for participating* communities will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at Parkland College, Champaign.  All households MUST register online to attend the event. 

Online registration opens on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, at 8:00 a.m.  This event is the only opportunity locally to recycle CRT (or 'tube') TVs.  There is a limit of 2 TVs per household.  Other electronic devices such as computers, monitors, printers, cameras and more will be accepted at the event,  with a 10 item limit of electronic devices per household accepted.  Households that register will be mailed a postcard that must be brought to the event for entry.   Please see the attached postcard for a complete list of electronic devices accepted at the event.

Starting in the spring of 2018, the City of Urbana Public Works will manage grass on the City Building’s south lawn free of environmental and health concerns for children, pets, and wildlife by not applying synthetic lawn pesticides and fertilizers. 

“The City of Urbana strives to keep our community a healthy place for everyone to enjoy,” said Mayor Diane Marlin. “Helping residents reduce use of synthetic lawn pesticides and fertilizers provides a safer environment for people, pets, and our rivers and streams.”

Goodwin Avenue Lane Closure

The 2017 Concrete Patching Project has been awarded by the City of Urbana to Otto Baum Company, Inc. The project award amount is $79,950.94. This project is being funded with City Capital Replacement and Improvement Funds.

The project consists of pavement patching; curb and gutter removal and replacement and other miscellaneous work on portions of Goodwin Avenue from Oregon Street to Clark Street. Periodic lane closures can be expected starting Friday, August 11, 2017 and ending Friday, August 18, 2017.

Lane Closure on Various Streets for Pavement Marking

The City of Urbana has contracted with Varsity Striping & Construction Company to perform the annual pavement marking project. The project consists of repainting the center line, edge line, bike lanes and no passing zones on various streets in the City of Urbana.

The striping equipment travels at very slow speeds when applying paint. Motorists should be patient and pass only when it is safe to do so.

Please see the attached map for the roads that will be impacted.

Periodic lane closures can be expected on the listed streets starting Wednesday, August 9, 2017 and ending Friday, August 18, 2017.
