Main Street Lane Shift

As part of the 2016-2018 Miscellaneous Sewer Repair Project, and weather permitting, Duce Construction will be doing a sanitary sewer repair that will shift the traffic lanes to the south resulting in the closure of the bike lanes on Main Street between Webber Street and Grove Street.

This work will start on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. and extend through Friday, March 31 at 5:00 p.m. Main Street will remain open to through traffic at all times during the project, as will all adjacent driveways. Traffic control will be in place to guide motorists through the areas where travel lanes are shifted.

Motorists and cyclists are encouraged to share the road and exercise caution through this construction area. Thank you for your cooperation while this repair is in progress.

North Wright Street Closure

Weather permitting, Wright Street will be closed to thru traffic between Eads Street and Beech Street from 7:00 a.m. Monday March 20, 2017 through 3:00 p.m. Friday March 24, 2017 for a sewer lining project being done by the Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District.

Access will be maintained to all properties on North Wright Street but no thru traffic will be permitted on North Wright Street between West Eads Street and West Beech Street.

Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas. Thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation during this project.

Main Street and Race Street Closures

The City of Urbana will close the following streets for the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade to be held on Friday, March 17, 2017.

Northbound Race Street between Elm Street and Main Street from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Main Street between Race Street and Broadway Avenue from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

On-street parking on Main Street will be restricted during the Main Street closure. No detour route will be established for this closure.

The City of Urbana appreciates your patience and cooperation during this street closure.

South Poplar Street Lane Closure

Weather permitting, South Poplar Street will be reduced to one lane of traffic between East Illinois Street and East Green Street starting on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 7:00 a.m. through Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. for a sanitary sewer repair done by D & S Sewer Service.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane through the construction zone so delays are anticipated and motorist should use an alternative route if possible. Motorists are encouraged to drive carefully through this and all construction areas.

Green Street Lane Closure

Periodic lane closures can be expected along Green Street from Wright Street to Lincoln Avenue, starting at 7:00 am Monday, March 13, 2017 for installation of a water main.

Duce Construction Company of Champaign will be performing the water main installation. Two-way traffic will be maintained on Green Street at all times. Pedestrian access for the CUMTD bus stop system will be maintained at all times throughout the construction of the water main.

The water main work is the first phase of the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) Project 1. The MCORE Project will improve access for all modes of transportation on the University of Illinois campus and provide direct connections to downtown Urbana and Champaign. The project is funded in part by a Federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
