Urbana Community Needs Survey

The City of Urbana is seeking citizen input regarding community needs. The City of Urbana is working to develop the 2023-2024 Annual Action Plan, which outlines the goals and budget for activities funded through the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). All responses will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used to help City staff determine how to best utilize HUD funding in the community.

Community Development Services Director Appointed

Kimberly I. Smith, AICP, MAUP, MBA was appointed Monday as Director of Community Development Services for the City of Urbana. Smith will take over for Sheila Dodd, Grants Manager, who has been serving as Interim Community Development Services Director since September 2021.
“I grew up in Champaign-Urbana, and held my first professional position with the Community Development Services Department,” Smith said. “I remained in the profession throughout my career, and am very excited to bring my experience and skills back home with me.”
Mayor Diane Wolfe Marlin said that she was impressed with Smith’s experience in managing a multi-division department similar to Urbana’s. “Her background in long-range planning, economic development, code administration, and neighborhood revitalization will enhance our current efforts.”
Public Safety Review Begins

The City of Urbana is working with BerryDunn, a national consulting firm, to evaluate its public safety service delivery model.
This project involves considering which services are to be provided by the police and fire departments, and which services are more appropriate for an alternative response model. For this project, the City has outlined three distinct yet interconnected project phases:
