The City of Urbana and the Urbana Police Department, in collaboration with BerryDunn, is embarking on an evaluation of the existing traditional police call for service (CFS) model. This strategic initiative explores the potential for non-traditional methods to address specific CFS types more effectively.
Key elements of this comprehensive evaluation will include:
• Community Input: A crucial survey designed to collect vital information, shaping the future of public safety services in Urbana.
• External Engagement: Dialogue with service providers, advocacy groups, and stakeholders in the public safety ecosystem.
• Internal Assessment: In-depth discussions with police staff and City officials to refine the CFS model.

Urbana City Clerk Phyllis Clark has announced her retirement effective November 6, 2023. Phyllis Clark served six terms as City Clerk from 1993 to 2017. She subsequently was appointed to fill the unexpired term of City Clerk Charles Smyth in May 2020 and was elected City Clerk in April 2021.
Fire Prevention Week Begins with UFD Family Night
Submitted by BridgetB on September 20, 2023 - 4:12pmThe Urbana Fire Department starts National Fire Prevention Week (October 8 – 14, 2023) with their annual event, Urbana Fire Community Risk Reduction Family Night, or what is commonly known as “UFD Family Night.”
Bring the family and meet-up with neighbors and friends at UFD Family Night which will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., October 8, 2023, at the Lincoln Square Mall southeast parking lot.
This year’s theme is “Cooking Safety Starts with You.” Cooking brings family and friends together. It provides an outlet for creativity and can be relaxing. However, cooking fires are the number one cause of home fires and home injuries.
