Summer Movie Nights Through August

UrbanaLove Summer Movie NightsThe Urbana Arts and Culture Program and The Urbana Free Library in partnership with Kanopy present Urbanalove Summer Movie Nights, indoor and outdoor movie screenings throughout the summer in conjunction with Urbanalove!

This month, we're delighted to feature the World first biopic created out of 65,000 oil paintings chronicling the life of Vincent Van Gogh, Loving Vincent. Popcorn and popsicles will be available for purchase. The film will screen at sundown (estimated 8:30 p.m.). This event is free and open to the public.

Solar Urbana-Champaign Reaches 50 Kilowatt Benchmark

Solar Powered Home The Solar Urbana-Champaign group buy program is gaining momentum as it surpasses its first goal of 50kW with six properties going solar. Now in its fourth iteration, the City of Urbana, Prairie Rivers Network, and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) launched this solar group buy program in May, bringing this grassroots program that combines volume purchasing with community education to make solar more accessible and affordable for area property owners. Passing the 50kW benchmark triggers a discount for program participants, like Julia Saville.

Urbana Sweetcorn FestivalThe Urbana Sweetcorn Festival was voted the #1 Community Event in The News-Gazette's People Choice Awards! We can't wait to have you, your family and friends out to the festival this year! The festival takes place August 23, from 5 p.m. to midnight, and August 24, from 11 a.m  to midnight, right here in Downtown Urbana!

The first Urbana Sweetcorn Festival was held in August 1975 in the parking lot at Main & Race Streets in downtown Urbana. It was a community event put on by the employees of local business Busey Bank.

The Urbana Business Association is now responsible for the planning of the festival, over the years adding an expanded family area, live music on multiple stages, food, vendors, and beer all in the heart of downtown Urbana.
