UI Physics Van to Visit Thomas Paine Elementary

The University of Illinois Physics Van, a traveling science show for students, will be visiting Thomas Paine Elementary Friday, October 22. Students in grades K-5 will view a variety of physics demonstrations performed by students from the University of Illinois Physics department. They will also have a chance to ask questions about the performance.

C-U Sharing the Road Bike Education Video Premiere

The cities of Urbana and Champaign have been working the past several months to produce a video to introduce the public to the bicycle infrastructure that is being installed around both cities and to teach motorists and bicyclists how to interact with each other on the road. 


This video was shot, edited and produced locally by Urbana Public Television, led by Jason Liggett.


The premiere of this video, entitled C-U Sharing the Road, will be held on Tuesday October 5th at the Art Theater in Downtown Champaign.  The doors open at 5:00 p.m. and the video will be shown at 5:30 p.m.  Admission is free.

Boneyard Creek Improvements Public Meeting

Join the City's Public Works staff and the design consultant team to review a concept plan for the Boneyard Creek in downtown Urbana.  Illustrations of the proposed improvements will be available for viewing, including proposed changes to the following key features of the Boneyard Creek:


·         Removal of steel channel walls and replacement with a vegetated open channel

"Ride For Their Lives" Campaign Making Stop in Urbana

On Thursday, August 26, 2010, Ed Smart and Ahmad Rivazfar, both parents of child abduction and abuse victims, will travel to Central Illinois by bicycle as part of an awareness and fundraising campaign, Ride For Their Lives, for the Surviving Parents Coalition (SPC) child advocacy initiatives. Rivazfar and Smart will stop at the Lake House at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana at 4 PM to meet guests and share information on how to protect children. From the C-U area, Smart and Rivazfar will ride to Kankakee, IL.


Riders wanting to join Smart and Rivazfar as they come into the C-U area from indianapolis may do so. There will be a meet-up point 60 miles outside the area. Riders may also do the last 10-15 miles with the group - the route is viewable on the ride website.
