UHS Theatre Production: James and the Giant Peach

In addition to school-day shows being offered to Urbana elementary school classes, there will be five performances of James and the Giant Peach for the general public:



  • February 18-21 at 7:00pm

  • February 22 at 2:30pm

All performances in the UHS Cobb Auditorium. Tickets are $5 for children and students and $10 for adults, and are available at the box office, which opens 30 minutes prior to each performance. A Character Carnival is also being held on Saturday, February 21, from 10:00–11:30 am in the Urbana High School Commons (enter through the Iowa Street doors).


The Carnival will feature the high school student actors in full costume for children to meet and take photos with, as well as storytelling, activities, peachy treats and refreshments, prizes, and balloons. Admission to the Carnival is $3 for kids ages five and under, and $5 for people six and up.

Urbana Schools Celebrate NAAPID

Urbana – Students, families, and staff will celebrate National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) on Monday, February 9, 2015. All USD #116 schools will have events throughout the day. Below, please find a schedule of select activities that will take place in the schools listed, in celebration of this national event.


King Elementary: King School will host NAAPID Day from 8:15-2:45 p.m. Parents are encouraged to visit their children's classrooms and join staff and teachers for a soul food luncheon in the library from 11:00-12:30 p.m.


Parents will complete a passport during the day to earn a change to win a drawing. Parents must have at least four different locations stamped on their passport to qualify for the drawing. Locations include: Homeroom Class, An ESL Class, A Specialist Teacher, Computer Lab, A Native Language Class, Library, Family Engagement room, Student Education Advocate/SEA office.

Urbana's Market at the Square to Host First Annual CSA Fair

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food, it bridges the gap between consumers and farmers, and can be a valuable option for anyone who would like access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and in our community, even meat, cheese, bread, and more! The First Annual Market at the Square CSA Fair is your opportunity to talk to the farmers that offer CSAs, buying clubs, and similar programs.

UPTV Annual Membership Meeting and Open House

Urbana Public Television will be holding its Annual Membership Meeting and Open House on Saturday, December 6th at noon inside the Urbana City Council Chambers at 400 South Vine Street in Urbana.


This is a chance for our community producers to meet one another and talk about possible collaborations.  It is also a great opportunity for members of the public to learn about the services provided by UPTV and a chance to see our facilities.


Light refreshments will be served.
