Pomp and Circumstance for Urbana Adult Education Graduates

Members of the Urbana Adult Education graduating class of 2014 who have earned their Urbana High School Diploma will celebrate their accomplishment on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Urbana High School Auditorium.

This cap and gown ceremony marks the achievement of those Urbana Adult Education students who have met the requirements for attaining their high school diploma through Urbana School District 116 during the 2013-2014 school year.

Pomp and Circumstance for GED Graduates

The Adult Education programs of Parkland College and Urbana School District 116 will host their annual GED Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 7:30p.m. in the Parkland College Theatre, 2400 W. Bradley Ave., Champaign.

This cap and gown ceremony includes all persons who passed the GED since last June at Parkland College, Urbana Adult Education, or the Champaign-Ford Regional Office of Education. Guests are welcome.

As a part of the program, there will be speakers and entertainment. Refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony.

Chinese Artists Liu Jun Gang Visits Urbana Conference

Internationally known Chinese watercolor artist Liu Jun Gang, of Beijing, China, will visit Urbana April 12-13 as part of the 2014 Illinois Sister Cities Association Annual Meeting held in Urbana at the Urbana Landmark Hotel.

Mr. Liu, who has been showing works at an exhibition at the John David Mooney Gallery in Chicago, was visited last July at his home in Beijing by Mayor Laurel Prussing and five “citizen diplomats” making their first Sister Cities partnership visit to Haizhu District, Guangzhou City, People’s Republic of China.

Artist Liu will give a slide lecture on his recent landscape paintings and will be available to meet at a ‘Wine & View” reception at the Urbana Landmark Hotel from 6 to 7 p.m. The Urbana Landmark Hotel is located at 210 S. Race St. in Urbana.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Joseph W. Royer Arts & Architecture District

Two new plaques will be dedicated Saturday, April 12, at 5 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. during the Boneyard Arts Festival program as part of the Joseph W. Royer Arts and Architecture District in downtown Urbana. The Royer Arts & Architecture District was created in 2007 to celebrate the work of local architect Joseph W. Royer while providing a focus for a new Arts District in downtown Urbana.

Urbana Lincoln Hotel (Urbana Landmark Hotel) dedication at 5 p.m. 210 S. Race Street, Urbana
The Urbana Lincoln Hotel, designed by Joseph W. Royer, opened in 1924. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the hotel. Recently renovated, the hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006 and declared a local landmark in 2010.
