The Urbana Free Library Board of Trustees and the Search Committee for the Executive Director are pleased to announce that three outstanding candidates have been invited to The Urbana Free Library for on-site interviews. The public is cordially invited to meet each candidate at a scheduled reception:
On Friday, January 31, Thomas Paine Elementary will host a CATCH Family Fitness night. The event will be from 6:30pm to 7:30pm at Thomas Paine and will consist of various health/wellness activities.
The CATCH Family Fitness night will be promoting healthy living for our students and their families by offering a FREE night of indoor fitness including Zumba, Yoga, Weight Lifting, and healthy snacks! We have some special guest planning to attend from Champaign County YMCA, and Kinex Fitness Studios as well.
CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) is the name of the grant Thomas Paine received from the Champaign Urbana Public Health Department for the 2013-14 school year for health-related activities. Along with CUPHD staff members and a few designated Thomas Paine staff, they have formed a committee to promote health/wellness awareness. In addition, all Thomas Paine teachers have been encouraged to talk about health and wellness with their students on a regular basis!
On Friday, January 31st at 9:30am, the Chinese classes at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary school will be giving a performance in celebration of Lunar New Year during the building Community meeting. The celebration will include several classes and they will perform for the whole student body, teachers and community members.
The teachers and students involved with the celebration have been working very hard for weeks and they are very excited to share these performances with everyone.

The Cities of Urbana and Champaign, Champaign County, University of Illinois and Parkland College hosted their 13th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Countywide Celebration on Friday, January 17th.
Urbana Public Television partnered with CGTV to provide video coverage of this event. UPTV will be running this special program on Sunday, January 19th and Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
The program will make its television premiere on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. It can also be seen at the times listed below:

We've teamed up with the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation to host a Launch Party and Lunch & Learn on Wednesday, January 29th to learn about the Urbana-Champaign ENERGY STAR Challenge and meet others taking the Challenge. The effort invites building owners and managers to benchmark their buildings' 2013 enery use on the free ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool and then track and improve their energy performance through 2014.
Buildings will compete against one another to see who can achieve the greatest energy use reduction in 2014 with awards to follow in early 2015. Participants can access free in-person assistance using the ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager tool, get connected with financial incentives to move their projects forward, and have access to technical support to help pinpoint building energy savings.
This free Lunch & Learn will demonstrate the basic functions of ENERTY STAR Portfolio Manager and show you how to get your building ENERGY STAR Certified.

As a thank you to their many volunteers, mentors, and supports, Thomas Paine will be hosting a community holiday celebration on Wednesday, December 18 from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m.
Community and parent volunteers, tutors, mentors and business partners have been invited to join the Thomas Paine community in the school gym for the celebration.
