Fourth Annual Sustainability Week

In collaboration with many partners, the Center for a Sustainable Environment will be hosting the Fourth Annual Sustainability Week on October 21-25, with activities to educate and encourage the campus and community to go green!

The week will be a celebration of the University's sustainable successes, and educational motivation to make even more progress.

There is something for everyone. Visit UIUC's most sustainable sites, and watch intriguing presentations about environmental ideas.

Lierman Avenue Closure Due to Urbana Fire Department Live Fire Training

 The Urbana, Champaign, and MABAS 28 Fire Departments will be partipating in Live Fire Training exercises at the Urbana Townhome Complex located at the 900 block of Lierman Avenue in Urbana on the following dates:  October 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and the weekend of the 26th & 27th

Community Input Meeting

The Search Committee for a new Executive Director of The Urbana Urbana Free LibraryFree Library will hold an open public meeting on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. in the Lewis Auditorium of The Urbana Free Library.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide the opportunity to the public to make suggestions and comments to the Search Committee regarding the desired qualifications of a new Executive Director.

RC Bash Fest

Hot Slots Radio Control is excited to present:

BASH FEST

When: Saturday, October 12, 2013

Where: 1809 Philo Road in Urbana (Hot Slots parking lot)

What: Radio control fest featuring a variety of races and courses, food vendor, and more.

All proceeds from R/C event will be donated to Prairie Elementary School ASSIST program!

Fire Prevention Week

The Urbana Fire Department will host Fire Prevention Week at Lincoln Square Village October 7-11, 2013.

During the day, Urbana school groups will Fire Safetylearn about fire safety and take part in several educational fire safety activities:

  • Don't play with matches or lighters
  • Stop, drop, and roll
  • Crawl low in smoke
  • Watch the famous UFD puppet show
  • Tour the New Fire Safety House
  • Use the inflatable slide

Family Night - Tuesday October 8, 5:30-7 p.m.

Head out to Family Night for free pizza and soft drinks for the first 500 participants. While there, meet Sparky the Fire Dog and Safety Pup and participate in many fire safety activities. Children ages 5-9 can color Sparky for a chance to win a new bicycle.

Urbana High School Sundae 5k

September 29, 2013 - 8:00am

Urbana High School will host their first UHS Sundae 5K on Sunday, September 29th starting at 8 am. The race will be a run/walk through the state-street area of West Urbana. There will also be a Sundae Junior 1K run that day. All proceeds from this event will go directly to the UHS athletic department.

Snacks and treats will be available for all participants and there will be raffle giveaways at the finish of the race in the Urbana Athletic Complex. Check in for the race will be from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m. prior to the race. The 5K run/walk will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the Junior 1K will start at 9:30 a.m. The start line is located at Washington and Broadway.
