Bring a picnic dinner, a blanket, or lawn chairs and enjoy these FREE concerts featuring terrific local performers! The park district provides free lemonade and popcorn.

Come out to our parks and see old friends and meet new friends this summer. Everyone is welcome at Neighborhood Nights! Visit with district staff and get local resources. A rain date is scheduled for the following night in case of inclement weather. Call the Urbana Park District Rainout Line after 4pm for postponement information: 217-367-9575, ext. 21.

Young Artist's Studio

Local violinist and violist Cydnee Ossai will lead participants through musical activities and a demonstration. There will also be the opportunity to hold a violin and viola! Activities will encourage an appreciation for rhythm, musical notation, and a love of music.

The Young Artist's Studio is a series of art workshops sponsored by The Urbana Free Library and The Urbana Arts & Culture Program designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts. All events in the series are free and open to the public. The series is designed for children ages 5 to 11 (7 and under with a caregiver.)

U-Cycle Holiday Collection - Week of May 30

Due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 30, 2022, all U-Cycle collection routes that week will be delayed one day (Monday's U-Cycle route will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday's collection route will be picked up on Wednesday, and so forth.).  Please continue to set recycling curbside by 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection. Questions may be directed to U-Cycle at (217) 384-2302.

Fourteenth Annual Fairy Tale Ball

Fairy tale lovers of all ages are invited to enjoy stories, crafts, games, and entertainment. Don your shiny suit of armor or sparkly ball

gown, or dress like your favorite fairy tale character, and join

us for an event of fantasy and frivolity.

 

Events:

 

  • Pocket Circus - Come see the clown from the Italian troupe Teatro Verde for juggling and fun! Try your own hand at juggling after the performance.

 

  • Bibbidi Bobbidi Bubbles - Enjoy the magical floating bubbles made by Joyful Bubbles. How many can you pop?

 

  • Beanstalk Beanbag Throw - How far can you throw 3 beanbags to hit Jack's beanstalk leaves? Come try it out and win a participation prize!

 

  • Mad Hatter Tea Party Musical Chairs – Find a chair when the music stops and see if you can be the last guest at the table.

 

  • Crafts - Create your own popsicle stick dragon! We'll have all the supplies you need to make your very own fire-breathing dragon. Also available as a take-home kit!

Sunken Cages & Kuroshio: A Unique Live Performance

Join us for an afternoon of live electronic music by Sunken Cages and ambient, avant world jazz by Kuroshio. They will perform separately and in collaboration for this special event.

Sunken Cages is the moniker for Ravish Momin, an Indian-born drummer and electronic music producer based in New York City. Touring on his recently released debut solo When The Waters Refused Our History (released by On the Corner 2021), Momin displays a unique electro-acoustic approach to triggering sounds and textures and layering live-loops with manipulations ‘on the fly’.

Kuroshio is an ever-evolving ensemble of improvising artists of Asian descent led by Jason Finkelman (percussion, laptop electronics) and currently featuring Joy Yang (theremin, keyboard), Saori Kataoka (trumpet, flugelhorn) and Kavi Naidu (saxophone, flutes).
