City of Urbana & City of Champaign Public Input Concerning Vehicle for Hire Changes

A public input meeting with the Cities of Urbana and Champaign concerning vehicle for hire changes will be held in the Council Chambers of the Urbana City building, 400 South Vine Street, Urbana.

Taxicab owners, drivers and the general public are invited to attend.

Written comments may be submitted to cityclerk@champaignil.gov by Monday, May 21, 2018 @ 5:00 p.m.

Urbana Boots vs Badges Blood Drive

This is a friendly competition between the Urbana Police Department and the Urbana Fire Department in an effort to get blood donors. These Urbana Departments want to help save lives! Urbana Fire Marshall Phil Edwards and former Urbana Police Officer Preston James have taken on the mission of recruiting donors from their departments. This blood drive is open to the public, and the community is encouraged to come on out the Urbana Civic Center and give blood!

BIke to Work Day is May 1

Bike to Work Day is an annual event that celebrates those who ride a bicycle. Whether you commute to work by bike every single day or just want to give it a try for the first time this year, this event celebrates you! This is the one day each year that our region formally recognizes bicycling as an everyday form of transportation. ​

On May 1, we challenge you to bike to work or class, and in return, we will provide stations and snacks and encouragement along the way. Registration for Bike to Work Day includes a free t-shirt that you can pick up at any of our stations.

Find a station near your home or workplace on the map on the bottom of the Bike To Work Day webpage. In 2018, there will be 12 stations throughout Urbana-Champaign.

A Gift of Trees for Urbana

Join us in thanking the Urbana Rotary Club, Dr. Holly Rosencranz and Warren Lavey at the Parkway of 105 Meadow Drive, Urbana.

This is a special ceremony to celebrate a gift of $10,000 and 85 new public parkway trees for the City of Urbana.It's one part of the Urbana Tree Cooperative Program's target of planting 209 new trees to begin replacing the hundreds of trees lost to the Emerald Ash Borer over the last three years.

Gather your friends, neighbors or co-workers and come show your pride in Urbana as a charter Tree City USA community. No RSVP needed.

Backyard Composting Workshop

City of Urbana's Urban Forest Reinvigorated by Cooperative Program

White Oak Over $10,000 provided to plant 85 trees for spring 2018

Designated as Tree City USA, Urbana’s quest to reinvigorate its “urban forest” is firmly rooted in an effort entitled the “Urbana Cooperative Tree Planting Program,” according to Mike Brunk, the City of Urbana’s arborist. “Urbana has recently gained partners in community greening and tree restoration efforts. Urbana Rotary and residents Dr. Holly Rosencranz, and Warren Lavey have joined efforts to provide the City of Urbana with over $10,000 for 85 new trees to line the lovely streets of Urbana. This will be undertaken through the Urbana Cooperative Tree Planting Program and will be part of 209 new trees targeted for spring 2018 planting,” Brunk said.

Public Input Sought on City Administrator Candidates

The City of Urbana is seeking community input during the final phase of hiring a new City Administrator.The four finalists for the position will be in town for interviews with the Mayor, city staff, and city council members on Monday, March 19 and Tuesday, March 20.  There will be opportunities for the public to weigh in online and at a public form on Tuesday evening.The schedule for public participation is given below.

Responses are requested by Monday, March 19, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Paper copies may be obtained by calling the City’s Human Resources office at (217) 384-2459. The public may submit questions for the Candidate Forum through this survey.
