The Sweetcorn Festival would not be possible without the time and dedication of countless volunteers.

In 2017, we had the support of approximately 500 volunteers. Our volunteers are comprised of individuals, businesses, families, community groups, fraternities and sororities, high school clubs, and more. Many of these volunteers return year after year and truly enjoy being a part of this family-oriented event. Our volunteers help to manage a variety of areas including corny the mascot, beer stands, ticket booths, the corn tent, recycling stations, vendor placement, check in tables, ice/water/food deliveries, cup & supply deliveries, and the sanitation team. Volunteers get some sweet(corn) perks as well! As a small way to say thanks, all volunteers receive a festival T-shirt, food and drinks, and a free ear of corn!

Don't delay! Volunteer today!

Urbana's Arbor Division Pairs-Up with UFD for "Training Op"

Last week, Urbana Public Works, Arbor Division had a training operation-or what is commonly called a training "op."

The Arbor Division provides certain services for the maintenance and planting of trees and green spaces and for operation of a county-wide landscape recycling center. In a City like Urbana, who is one of the charter members of Tree City U.S.A., this is a huge responsibility. According to Bruce Cubberly, Urbana Public Works Arbor Manager, "Last week's training was called an aerial rescue. It is a requirement of arborist certification for working in trees."

So, the division met on the south lawn of the City building to complete their training exercise.
