Urbana Schools Registration

Urbana School District #116 announces their annual Centralized Registration event will take place at the end of July. The one-stop-shop for all Urbana students, early childhood through high school, will take place at Urbana Middle School, 1201 S. Vine St., Urbana.

The days and times are as follows:

  • Monday, July 30, 2018 - 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, July 31, 2018 - 8:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Want to help a child start off the school year right?

The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 70 needs your help in making sure every kid has all of the supplies needed for success by hosting a Backpack/School Supply drive! Please consider purchasing items on the list below and placing them in the donation box located in the lobby of the Urbana Police Department. All items will go to kids in the Urbana School District elementary grades. Donations will be accepted July 5-August 10.

An Artist of the Corridor Exhibition by Christopher Evans

Opening Reception: Wednesday, July 18th, 2018 from 4:30pm-6pm, City Hall (400 S. Vine)

The City of Urbana invites the public to view the latest Artist of the Corridor exhibition titled SCENES OF DOWNTOWN, featuring illustrations by Christopher Evans.

This exhibition runs until August 30th, 2018 at the Urbana City Building (400 S. Vine Street), and The Urbana Free Library (210 W. Green Street).

An opening reception will be held at the City Building lobby on Wednesday, July 18th, 2018 from 4:30pm-6pm. All are welcome.

Art at the Market!

Join the City of Urbana Public Arts Program for our July Art at the Market! From 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. explore the art of papel picado, a Mexican folk art craft, guided by the staff of La Casa Cultural Latina and the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. From 9:30am-11:30am, enjoy a musical performance from Jean René Balekita and Bomoyi, a ensemble with extensive repertoire of traditional hymns to African rhythms with flavors of gospel, jazz and Congolese rumba. Bomoyi means “life” in the native language of Lingala. All these events are free, open to all ages, and require no registration to participate. The workshop and performance will be held on Walnut Street near the City of Urbana tent at the northwest entrance to the Market at the Square, located in historic downtown Urbana on Illinois and Vine. The City offers art programming during Urbana’s Market at the Square season.

Neighborhood Nights in Ambucs Park

The Urbana Park District loves our neighbors so much, we bring a great concert to 11 different neighborhoods each summer.

Live, local music is the hallmark of these events. Each park features a different local band, all playing the very best music from blues to 80s hits to jazz and bluegrass. Bring your lawn chair or even a picnic dinner and spend the evening with us.

Nature Play at Neighborhood Nights Discover nature right outside your door. Can you identify the critters you see in your local park? Join the Neighborhood Nights Naturalist for some fun playing with nature’s “loose parts” and be entered to win prizes.

The Champaign County Fair

The 166th Champaign County Fair gets underway July 20!!

From horse shows, to tractor pulls, live music, and talent shows the Champaign County Fair brings nine days of pure delight! This year Trace Adkins, Tracy Lawrence and Confederate Railroad as the Main Stage Headliners, this year the fair is sure to please! The Champaign County Fairgrounds is located at 1302 N. U-Cycle Collection Schedule - Independence Day

July 4, 2018 - 7:00am to July 7, 2018 - 5:00pm

Due to the Independence Day holiday on July 4, U-Cycle collections on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday routes will be collected one day later.  The Wednesday U-Cycle collection route will be collected on Thursday, Thursday's collection on Friday, and so forth.  Please set recycling at the street curb by 7 a.m. to ensure collection.

What's in Your Square? Visioning Activity

You are invited to participate in a What’s in your square? Visioning Activity for the 9-block Lincoln Square area consisting of the Landmark Hotel, Lincoln Square Mall, and the publicly-owned parking lots.

Spend about an hour sharing your ideas for the future during interactive activities at any of the following times:

  • Thursday, June 21, at 6pm
  • Wednesday, June 27, at 6pm
  • Saturday, June 30, at 11am and 1pm

Please join us in the southwest wing of the Mall, across from Tang Dynasty, where the IDEA Store will soon locate.

City of Urbana Marches in the Champaign County Freedom Celebration 2018

The 69th Champaign County Freedom Celebration parade will start at 11:04 a.m.

This year the City of Urbana staff will participate in the parade. One of the highlights will be our own SUPERHEROES, the Urbana Fire Department, being present for kids of all ages to get their picture taken beside one of our beautiful fire trucks before the parade!

We will also have our own Polly the pothole patcher truck on hand for those to see. Plus, our new City Administrator, Carol Mitten, will join the staff as we celebrate our freedom. We will have a decorating station before the parade starts. If you need to add a little 4th of July color to your wagon, bike or stroller, come on over to the Urbana pre-parade area!
