The City of Urbana is continuing to accept applications for Entry-Level Firefighter through Sunday, June 11, 2017. The City offers employees a comprehensive benefits package, competitive pay and a career ladder with multiple opportunities to reward motivation and achievement.

On Saturday, May 27, the Commencement Ceremony of the Urbana High School Class of 2017 will take place at the State Farm Center on the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus.
After an absence of three years due to construction of the former Assembly Hall, the UHS commencement will be the first area high school commencement back at the arena. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 am.
Students who have completed their coursework with Urbana Adult Education will also be receiving their diplomas during this ceremony.
As been the tradition in the past few years, three graduating Tigers will speak to their classmates during the ceremony. There will also be performances by the UHS Orchestra.
All family and friends of UHS graduating seniors are welcome to attend the Commencement. There is a $5 fee to park in the State Farm Center lot.
Champaign-Urbana Named a Best Midwest Food Town
The monthly magazine, Midwest Living, just announced a curated list of the twelve most delicious food towns in the Midwest which includes Champaign-Urbana. As part of their Greatest Midwest Town’s contest series, readers will vote from May 1–31 on the best food town to be featured in their September/October issue.

Join tour leader, Matt Metcalf, and walk into the West Urbana neighborhood to look at the great mix of architectural styles which illustrate the development patterns of a growing city. We will also look at various influences of styles versus full developed examples of styles to see the real eclectic mix in this neighborhood.

Early 20th Century Houses - Influence and Style

We’ll look at the great mix of architectural styles used from circa 1905 - 1940, showing evolving American ideals and international influences. As urban density occurred in companion with an expansion of the middle class, the influence of regional and national patterns of architectural standardization was encouraged by mass production, and the aspiration nature of the residents who lived there.

The musicians have strong and diverse backgrounds in classical, contemporary art music, jazz, and Latin jazz with folk, gypsy, gypsy jazz, tango, and klezmer.

This year the former Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois celebrates its 100th anniversary. The base was established May 1917, following the United States’ entry into WWI and trained over 2 million servicemen and women during its 76 years of operation. In 2016, the Champaign County Historical Archives acquired the archival records from the Chanute Air Museum when it closed in Fall 2015, including photographs, scrapbooks, blueprints, base publications, and subject and history files. The Archives is celebrating Chanute’s impressive history with a variety of events during May.
