Prevailing Wage Act

The Prevailing Wage Act (820 ILCS 130/1 et seq.) requires contractors or subcontractors to pay prevailing wages to all laborers, workers, and mechanics who perform work on a public works project. Advertisement for Bids 2011 - Sewer Lining Project

Sealed BIDS will be received until 2:00 P.M. prevailing time on JULY 6, 2011 and opened and read aloud publicly at 2:02 P.M. prevailing time on JULY 6, 2011 at the office of the City Engineer, 706 South Glover, Urbana, Illinois, 61802 for the 2011 Sewer Lining Project (City Section 10-00500-00 -SR) furnishing of all materials, equipment and labor necessary for the cured-in-place full-length lining of approximately 7,154 feet of 8-inch and 1,281 feet of  12-inch sanitary sewer.


The bid will also include an additive alternative for 1,769 feet of 8-inch cured-in-place full-length sanitary sewer lining.

Sealed BIDS will be received until 2:00 P.M. prevailing time on JUNE 21, 2011 and opened and read aloud publicly at 2:00 P.M. prevailing time on JUNE 21, 2011 at the office of the UIUC Facilities and Services 1501 South Oak Street, Champaign, IL 61820 for the furnishing of all materials, equipment and labor necessary for the URBANA SECTION - UC2B INFRASTRUCTURE INSTALLATION. The project includes construction of a new fiber optic backbone network and Fiber-To-The-Premise (FTTP) distribution network in various parts of the City of Urbana, Somer Township and Urbana Township.The conduit for the fiber optic cable shall be installed by horizontal directional drilling methods with limited open cut allowed for handholes, splices, and limited plowing in cultivated areas.

Request for Proposals: Main Street Bike Lanes and Pedestrian Improvements

The City of Urbana is planning to construct pedestrian and bicycle related improvements along Main Street from Cedar Street to Vine Street and from Grove Street to Dewey Street.  The City is soliciting proposals for the performance of professional engineering services in connection with the proposed improvements in both segments of Main Street. The consultant(s) selected, along with any sub-consultants, must be pre-qualified by IDOT to perform the type of work required of the project.


The proposed improvements include: milling and resurfacing; pavement patching as necessary; striping on-street bike lanes; constructing ADA compliant ramps, including bump-outs at some intersections; constructing new sidewalk where it currently does not exist; removing and replacing brick and concrete sidewalks; and constructing traffic signal upgrades at Main Street and Race Street as well as Main Street and Broadway Avenue.

Request for Proposals: Goodyear Block (200 Block of S. Vine St.)

The City of Urbana has issued a Request for Proposals to redevelop the entire city block north of the Urbana City Building bounded by Green Street on the south, Elm Street on the north, Vine Street on the west, and Urbana Avenue on the east.  You can download a copy of the RFP below or request a hard copy to be sent by contacting the City of Urbana Economic Development Division at (217)384-2444.

Request for Qualifications: Boneyard Creek Beautification Project

The City of Urbana and the Urbana Public Arts Commission are pleased to release a Request for Qualifications to identify an artist or artist team to assist with the design and development of public art as part of the Boneyard Creek Beautification Project, a City project that will create a pedestrian-friendly urban park in Downtown Urbana. The chosen artist/artist team will work with a team of City staff, engineers, and landscape architects to develop public art elements that incorporate the following overall themes:  the natural environment, local materials and representations of the diverse community in Urbana.
