Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Department Posts

Weather permitting, Cross Construction Company, Urbana, Illinois, will begin daytime milling and repaving operations at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, October 18, 2013 on Main Street from Grove Street to Dewey Street. The milling and repaving will commence at the easterly limits and proceed to the west. The milling and resurfacing is expected to extend into the week of October 28th and be completed by November 1, 2013.

In collaboration with many partners, the Center for a Sustainable Environment will be hosting the Fourth Annual Sustainability Week on October 21-25, with activities to educate and encourage the campus and community to go green! The week will be a celebration of the University's sustainable successes, and educational motivation to make even more progress.

As part of the stormwater utility program, incentive payments or credits are available to help property owners reduce their stormwater utility bills. Credits are not available to single family and duplex residential property owners. In order to qualify for incentive payments or credits, property owners must install qualifying stormwater management features on their property that help reduce stormwater runoff or improve stormwater quality.
