Memorial Day Holiday - U-Cycle Collection Schedule

*Holiday Reminder* Due to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 29, all U-Cycle collection routes will be delayed by one day. Monday's U-Cycle route will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday's route on Wednesday, and so forth. Please continue to set recycling at the curb before 7:00 a.m. to ensure collection.

Draft Capital Improvement Plan Available for Review

The Urbana Public Works Department presented a draft of the annual update to the City’s $102.9M Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to the City Council this past Monday, May 22, 2023. The City welcomes public review and inspection, and are encouraged to submit comments and questions to jczeman@urbanaillinois.us by June 19, 2023.

The CIP is the City’s plan for addressing infrastructure and capital asset needs.  This plan outlines drafted projects for the subsequent five fiscal years (currently for Fiscal Year 2024 through Fiscal Year 2028) for the following types of capital improvements: streets, sidewalks, bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure, traffic signals and lights, storm and sanitary sewer infrastructure, and public facilities. Revenue for the CIP comes from motor fuel taxes, City of Urbana General Fund transfers, grants, and sewer usage fees.

This year's National Public Works Week is a time to honor the men and women who dedicate their skills, expertise, and tireless efforts to ensure the smooth functioning of our cities and towns. We applaud their commitment to excellence and their unwavering dedication to public service.

Military Family History with Bill McLane

Explore generations of one family's military service. Join Bill McLane on a journey through the military service of his family, from the American Revolution to the present day. Bill will present on his findings and family members' experiences through the various wars and conflicts, and his research process. Bill is a veteran and the adjutant of the American Legion Post #433 in Sidney, Illinois, where he has curated a display of his extensive personal collection of military memorabilia. Registration is required to attend this in-person event.

TUFL Summer Reading Program Kick-Off

Summer Reading is here! Join us for a celebration with community drum ensemble, Bloco Gavião, activities, and a special treat.It's  a party for everyone! Signup for Summer Reading while you enjoy a live, outdoor performance by Bloco Gavião, an Afro-Brazilian inspired community drum ensemble. You'll have a chance to drum and dance along, make your own instrument, create chalk art, and enjoy a special treat.

In the case of inclement weather, this program will be held inside.

National Police Week 2023

What is National Police Week? 

National Police Week occurs every May. The National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum will hold ceremonies, including the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor the fallen officers whose names have recently been added to the Memorial.

We respect, honor, and thank our Urbana Police Department for their service to our community. 

Locally, this year the Urbana Police Department held a flag ceremony where the Honor Guard Unit raised the Law Enforcement Flag at the Urbana City Building. The flag will remain in place for the remainder of National Police Week.
