TUFL Summer Reading Program Kick-Off

Summer Reading is here! Join us for a celebration with community drum ensemble, Bloco Gavião, activities, and a special treat.It's  a party for everyone! Signup for Summer Reading while you enjoy a live, outdoor performance by Bloco Gavião, an Afro-Brazilian inspired community drum ensemble. You'll have a chance to drum and dance along, make your own instrument, create chalk art, and enjoy a special treat.

In the case of inclement weather, this program will be held inside.

Lake House Candlelight Serenade

Lake House Candlelight Serenade...

Go for a romantic evening of candlelit paddle boat rides paired with the serenading sounds of the CU Symphony's string quartet live on the Lakeside Deck at The Lake House in Crystal Lake Park.

Tickets in Advance: (deadline 5/18 at 5pm): $15 per boat, $5 per person patio-only seating.

*Your boat ticket is for one 30-minute ride on a first-come, first-served basis that seats up to four people. After your ride, enjoy the rest of the concert from the Lake House patio. Adult beverages from Analog Wine Library will be for sale.

National Police Week 2023

What is National Police Week? 

National Police Week occurs every May. The National Law Enforcement Memorial and Museum will hold ceremonies, including the 35th Annual Candlelight Vigil, to honor the fallen officers whose names have recently been added to the Memorial.

We respect, honor, and thank our Urbana Police Department for their service to our community. 

Locally, this year the Urbana Police Department held a flag ceremony where the Honor Guard Unit raised the Law Enforcement Flag at the Urbana City Building. The flag will remain in place for the remainder of National Police Week. 

Memorial Day

The City of Urbana regular business offices will be closed on May 29, 2023, in honor and recognition of Memorial Day. Our offices will open for regualr operation on May 30, 2023, at 8 a.m.

Originally called Decoration Day, from the early tradition of decorating graves with flowers, wreaths and flags, Memorial Day is a day for remembrance of those who have died in service to our country. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868 to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of Gen. John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former Union sailors and soldiers.

Juneteenth

Urbana's Stormwater Asset Management Plan Public Meeting

The City of Urbana invites you to a virtual public meeting that will be held on May 11, 2023 at 6 p.m. to seek comments on the plan. In addition, the project team will distribute information to the public via various channels, including social media, the project website, city newsletters, and City Council meetings. These communication channels will be used to keep the public informed about project milestones, upcoming meetings, and other important updates.

BerryDunn Public Safety Review Town Hall

The City of Urbana announces a town hall event for community members to meet with staff from BerryDunn, a national consulting firm. The City of Urbana is working with BerryDunn to evaluate its public safety service delivery model. This project involves considering which services are to be provided by the police and fire departments, and which services are more appropriate for an alternative response model.

The town hall will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at The Stone Creek, located at 2502 S. Race Street in Urbana from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The event will give the public an opportunity to explore community thoughts on public safety and to explore alternative response models. The event will be facilitated by staff from BerryDunn.

Boneyard Arts Festival

Its goal is to bring together local artists, businesses and organizations for a special event showcasing the art of Champaign County.
