Concerts occur on the 2nd Saturday of the month and feature live musical performances at 10am! On Saturday, Mar. 7th, the Urbana Arts and Culture Program is proud to feature the Bodacious String Band, playing live music while you shop our local market! Bring your family and witness a fantastic morning concert at Market in the Square - 2019-2020 Season! Artist of the Corridor: Women Who Painted

Women Who PaintedThe City of Urbana's Arts and Culture Program and The Urbana Free Library invite you to an opening reception for Women Who Painted, an Artist of the Corridor Exhibition on March 5th, from 5:30-7p.m. at the City Hall (400 S. Vine Street).

Refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public! The exhibit will be on display throughout the month of March in honor of Women's History Month.

Women Who Painted is a collection of digital and oil paintings by local artist, Paula McCarty. What started out as a desire to learn digital painting by selecting women painters as subjects, evolved into a growing visual archive. In honor of Women’s History Month, Women Who Painted celebrates the work of women visual artists and their impact on the global arts and cultural landscape.

The Landscape Recycling Center recycles local yard debris such as grass clippings, brush and plant cuttings into useful mulches and composts for the home and garden. We also offer salvaged landscaping products such as granite fines, asphalt millings and street pavers when available. Products are for sale to residents, landscapers, nurseries and businesses. Revenue is used to help offset the cost of operating the not-for-profit community facility

University Avenue Construction Meeting Set

Students crossingThe Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting about construction along University Avenue (U.S. 150) between Wright Street and Cunningham Avenue in Urbana on Monday, March 2, 2020.

The meeting will be held at the project field office from 5-7 p.m. March 2, 2020. The field office is located at 510 N. Cunningham Ave, Unit 5 Urbana.

Construction is expected to begin March 16 and involves rebuilding sidewalks, curbs and gutters as well is improvements to lighting and traffic signals in the work zone during the 2020 construction season. Nighttime rehabilitation of the road surface is slated for next year. The project is scheduled to be complete by Nov. 1, 2021.

Census Bureau also announces updates to special operations, assistance program and early nonresponse followup

MARCH 15, 2020 — The U.S. Census Bureau continues to carefully monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation and follow the guidance of federal, state and local health authorities. We are adjusting some operations as outlined below with two key principles in mind: protecting the health and safety of our staff and the public and fulfilling our statutory requirement to deliver the 2020 Census counts to the President on schedule.

 A Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at 6:00 pm in the Council Chambers of the Urbana City Building, prior to the Urbana Community Development Commission meeting, to receive comments and suggestions on an Amendment to the City of Urbana 2014-2015, 2015-2016, 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 Annual Action Plan budgets.
