Artist of the Corridor

October 3, 2018 - 4:30pm to 6:00pm

Join the Urbana Public Arts Program and The Urbana Free Library for the opening reception for next art exhibition in our Artist of the Corridor Series: LOOMED BEADWORK by Judie Spencer!

"Beads have been used as currency, adornments, status symbols, counting devices, religious objects and have been part of the human story for thousands of years. They seem to be hardwired into the human brain, eliciting universal emotional responses to their diminutive beauty. They have been produced from hundreds of natural and synthetic materials. Their shape, size and colors are infinite," Spencer said.

The Urbana Free Library & Urbana Public Arts Program proudly sponsors this month’s Artist of the Corridor exhibition, BEADWORK by local artist Judie Spencer.

Check out a HOT SPOT!

Date:
September 1, 2018 - 12:00pm to September 30, 2018 - 11:59pm

Did you know that The Urbana Free Library has tech gadgets you can borrow? This is yet another good reason to sign-up for a library card this September, which is "Library Card Sign-Up Month."

Seriously.

Let's say your family is going on vacation, and you want to bring Wi-Fi with you. There's no need to extend you local service and increase your monthly bill. Your Urbana Free Library card allows you to check-out that ever-valuable Hot Spot for your family to borrow on your vacation.

How wonderful is the library, right? But, guess what? There is more!

Ever wonder what family treasures lurk on those old VHS tapes you’ve saved? Thinking about reformatting your boxes full of photos or slides to digital duplicates? Do you have a cache of dated 3.5 inch floppy discs with unknown files you’d like to view or copy? Need a projector to display images for that presentation you’re planning?

Urbana Homecoming Parade

Date:
September 28, 2018 - 3:00pm

Urbana High School students, staff, and alumni will celebrate homecoming during the week of September 24 through September 28, with their traditional Homecoming Parade on Friday, September 28. In a change from 2017, the Homecoming Varsity football game vs. Champaign Centennial will be held on Friday, September 28, however, the game will start earlier than previous years, at 5:00pm. Students must present a photo ID to obtain a ticket to the Football game, and any youth under the age of 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Homecoming Parade

On Friday, September 28, the Homecoming Parade will start at 3:00pm. The parade will include the Homecoming King and Queen and their Court, UHS Marching Band, floats created by student committees representing student groups and grade levels, student athletic teams, and a variety of special guests and USD #116 administrators. The Court will also be introduced during the UHS Varsity Football game later that day. There will be a USD #116 Family Social at 4:30pm on the west side of Urbana Middle School prior to the Varsity Football game, with food trucks available.

Experience Pygmalion

Date:
September 26, 2018 - 5:30pm to September 30, 2018 - 12:00am

Since 2005, the programming at PYGMALION has sought to engage its community of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois with the newest and most vital live music it can afford.

Over the years, it has grown from simply being a music festival, and into a multi-disciplinary event. In 2018, it has expanded once again. In addition to Music, Literature, Technology, Food, and a Made Fest, we bring Comedy and Podcasts to the forefront as well.

The nature of modern “festivals” has become so passé, we barely recognize the word, and choose not to use it any longer. Of course PYGMALION is a festival, one that looks like any other, on its face. I mean, look at the poster. There’s a lot of names there, a lot of bands, and artists. There are sponsors, of course there are!
