*The City of Urbana passed the Solar Energy System Text Amendment (Ordinance No. 2022-05-18) which permits solar farms – large-scale solar energy systems that produce electricity for sale to the grid – in many zoning districts as a special use. Solar arrays – small-scale solar energy systems that produce electricity for a nearby use or structure – are permitted as accessory structures in all zoning districts. Please direct zoning-related questions to the Planning Division at Planning@urbanaillinois.us or 217-384-2440.
