Urbana Early Childhood School Ribbon Cutting and Open House

Urbana Early Childhood School (UECS), located at 2202 E. Washington St, Urbana, will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony for their new facility on Saturday, August 17, 2013, from 12noon to 2pm. The open house will provide the community a chance to tour the new early childhood school prior to opening day.

UHS Hosting its Second Annual Football 7-on-7 Tournament

July 6, 2013 - 8:00am to 3:00pm

Urbana High School (UHS) will be hosting its Second Annual Football 7-on-7 Tournament this Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Urbana Athletics Complex. The event will begin at 8:00 am with games starting around 9:00 am and run until about 3:00 pm.

The 7-on-7 tournament will feature a number of schools from the central Illinois area. Each of the participating schools will be guaranteed 7 games. Admission to the event will be $3 for adults and $2 for students.

The participating schools are:

  • Argenta-Oreanna
  • Clifton Centra
  • Effingham
  • Rantoul
  • St. Joseph-Ogden
  • Rich South
  • Oakwood

UPTV Will Rebroadcast the Freedom Celebration Parade

UPTV will not carry the parade live, but will show it several other times over the holiday weekend.

Marie Polk and Josh Laskowski will anchor the broadcast produced by several UPTV volunteers.  The parade begins at 11:05 a.m. on July 4th and you'll have to show up in person to see it live.  However, UPTV will be rebroadcasting the parade several times over the holiday weekend.

Urbana Green Buildings Showcase

Please join the City of Urbana, Champaign County Sustainability Network (CCNet), area facilities, and the U.S. Green Building Council-Illinois Chapter for a green buildings tour being held from 8am – 12:30pm on Saturday, June 8, 2013. This free tour will showcase energy efficient building strategies and sustainable practices. Homeowners and green building professionals will be available on-site to discuss their projects and answer your questions.

The program will be presented as a tour. Attendees will spend 45 minutes at each location, and will have the opportunity to ask questions and view components. The tour circuit covers an approximate 5-mile radius. 15 minutes will be allowed to travel to the next location. Please plan accordingly.

Commencement, Promotion and End-of-Year Celebrations for Urbana School District

Urbana students in 5th and 8th grades and even some Kindergarten students will be celebrating their promotions this week in school-led celebrations. Our UHS seniors will mark the end of their time as Tigers in their own graduation ceremony on Sunday, May 26th. The listing and times of all the celebrations are below.

Each school has its own unique service that brings the students, parents and family, teachers and staff, and community members together in celebration. During the UMS 8th grade promotion ceremony, several awards will be presented to students. USD #116 is proud of all our students and their accomplishments.

May 18th C-U SRTS Project is offering a Bicycle Rodeo. Bike Rodeos are an opportunity for parents and children to learn how to be safe when bicycling and to practice some basic bicycling skills.
