Urbana-Champaign Sanitary District Open House

October 6, 2012 - 9:00am to 3:00pm

Come out and see the improvemens to the Northeast Wastewater Treatment Facility at 1100 E. University Ave in Urbana.

The open house includes the following:

  • TOURS: Learn how we get clean water from sewage.  You won’t have to wait.  Tours will leave every 10 to 15 minutes.
  • TV TRUCK: See what’s inside of a sewer line and how repairs get done without digging!
  • Cookies & Drinks: ‘nuff said.

Open House will run, rain or shine. Please dress for the weather! Tours typically involve walking outdoors for about 30 minutes. We will customize them to talk about your interests. Upon request, some special accommodations can be made.

UC2B Community Civic Event Meeting

Urbana-Champaign, Illinois is completing construction of a public system - called UC2B - that will connect 10% of the community with fast broadband they can use to access the Internet, share videos, make phone calls and more. The project was made possible by federal funds.

Lincoln Elm Tree Dedication

The City of Urbana is celebrating its connection with Abraham Lincoln. Come join Mayor Prussing and Alderman Dennis Roberts in dedicating Urbana’s Lincoln Elm Tree and commemorative plaque (pictured below) at 5:30 PM on Monday, September 17, 2012, at the Urbana Autozone at 606 East Main Street.

LIGHT THE NIGHT 2012

FREE BIKE LIGHT GIVEAWAY

Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 4-8 PM

Bring your bike without a light to one of two locations and our team of volunteers will install a set free of charge. Light sets will only be installed on bicycles without lights; lights will not be given to individuals.

Thomas Paine 4th Graders & Prairie Winds Residents Deliver School Supplies

On Friday, August 31, 2012 at 10:15AM, residents from Prairie Winds of Urbana will be joining a 4th Grade class at Thomas Paine Elementary School, 1801 James Cherry Drive, Urbana, to deliver school supplies.

The residents from Prairie Winds of Urbana and the students at Thomas Paine began spending time together last year, and the residents will be donating school supplies that will benefit the entire school.

Stuff the Bus - Urbana Drop Off Site

In an effort to help the United Way of Champaign County with their “Stuff the Bus” promotion to help meet needs in our community and to help agencies with frequently needed items, the City of Urbana has agreed to be a drop off site for donations in Urbana.

Mortgage Relief Project

The Mortgage Relief Project, which is part of the Illinois Foreclosure Prevention Network, can help you take advantage of programs to help you lower your mortgage, avoid foreclosure and keep your home. Receive free housing counseling at Parkland Community College from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2012 (registration until noon).

A new community garden takes root in east Urbana thanks to the efforts of the Lierman Neighborhood Action Committee, local businesses and volunteers, and the City of Urbana. The garden will be dedicated at 1 P.M. on September 8, 2012 as part of Urbana's Let's Move! initiative to promote healthy eating and active living.

Urbana to Host Illinois Arts Council Workshop for Individual Arts Support

The City of Urbana Public Arts Program is pleased to announce it will be hosting an In-Person Workshop presented by the Illinois Arts Council for the FY2013 Individual Artists Support Initiative grant program on Wednesday August 29, 2012 at 5:30 pm in the Council Chambers of the Urbana City Building at 400 South Vine Street.

This workshop will provide an overview of the Individual Artist Support grant program guidelines and application process, including updated information and a short Q & A session. CU Gun Buyback

Save a Dream - Secure Tomorrow

The CU Gun Buyback program will take place on August 4, 2012 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, 201 West Kenyon Road in Champaign. 

This event, open only to Champaign County residents, will give out a $50 VISA cash card for every functional gun turned in (limit of two guns per person, no gun dealers).
