Job Fair for Veterans

Are you a veteran looking for employment opportunities?


When: Friday, April 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.


Where:Illinois National Guard Armory, 600 E University, Urbana, IL


The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs, U of I, Parkland College and Illinois Department of Employment Security invite you to Helping and Hiring our Hometown Heroes event which will feature over 30 federal, state and local companies offering employment opportunities. Federal, state, and local agencies will be in attendance to help maximize your veteran’s benefits.


Stop by the City of Urbana booth and learn about employment opportunities with us!

Kindergarten Pre-Registration in Urbana School District

Parents of students entering Kindergarten in the 2012-13 school year will have to opportunity to register their child early and receive a “fun bag” full of activities and materials to use with their child over the summer. Kindergarten pre-registration for Urbana School District will be held next Tuesday, April 3 at the Urbana Civic Center from 8:30 a.m. ̶ 3:00 p.m.


Parents will need to bring the following:



  • Their child’s original birth certificate

  • Photo ID

  • Proof of residence in Urbana

  • Phone numbers for doctors and emergency contacts

If a language other than English is spoken in the home, parents are asked to bring their child for an English as a Second Language Screening.

Ribbon Cutting for Eastland Suites Expansion

Join the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce at a ribbon cutting for the new expansion of Eastland Suites Hotel and Conference Center.


The event starts at 4:30 PM at 1907 N Cunningham Ave in Urbana.


Eastland Suites offers accomodations and meeting space for business and leisure travelers.

Ribbon Cutting for the Vineyard Church Hope Center

Join the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting for the newly rennovated Vineyard Church Hope Center.


The event is from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at 1500 N Lincoln Ave in Urbana.


The Hope Center provides assistance to Champaign-Urbana community members including food and hygiene product distribution as well as guidance in seeking employment.

Industrial Zoning District Informational Open House

The City of Urbana will hold an open house at the Urbana Civic Center at 6:00 pm March 14th concerning proposed changes to the City’s industrial zoning standards. A draft of proposed changes to the Urbana Zoning Ordinance and Zoning Map will be explained to affected property owners and others, and City staff will be on hand to take comments.


Based on feedback from this meeting, City staff anticipates that the Urbana Plan Commission could be asked to hold a public hearing as early as April 2012.
