Urbana Middle School Teachers to Raise Funds Through McTeacher Night

Urbana Middle School 8th grade teachers and staff will be participating in a McTeacher’s night at the McDonalds on Philo, Tuesday, September 13th. The teachers, 8th grade dean, and Principal Woods will be working behind the counters from 5-7pm.


McTeacher’s Night will provide UMS with the opportunity to increase school pride and generate funds for their school by allowing them to take over a McDonald’s location from 5-7 P.M., with a percentage of the sales going directly to the school.

9/11 Memorial Ceremony

The public is invited to join Champaign County Public Safety Agencies as the community unites for the 10-year anniversary of September 11, 2001. The event is scheduled for Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 2 p.m. in front of the Champaign County Courthouse, located at 101 E. Main St. in Urbana.

Urbana Broadband Project Open House

Residents of Urbana will have an opportunity to view exhibits and plans of the UC2B Urbana Broadband project at an informal public open house to be held in the Multi-Purpose Room at Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary School, 1108 West Fairview Avenue, Urbana, Illinois on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.


Participants are asked to park in the north parking lot off Goodwin Avenue and enter through the doors on the northwest side of the building.

UMS Open House Offers Opportunities for Parent Learning

Urbana Middle School invites Parents and students to their annual PTSA Picnic and UMS Open House, next Tuesday, August 23rd at 5:30pm. The picnic will be held in the newly remodeled cafetorium where PTSA members will be selling pizza, water, and soda.


This year, in addition to meeting teachers and teams, the middle school is adding special learning sessions for parents. During these sessions, parents will have the opportunity to learn and discuss topics about challenges during middle school years, accessing homework blogs, special education needs, and strategies for homework help. There will also be information for Spanish-speaking parents about how to advocate for their children, the need to maintain two-way communication with teachers and staff, parent involvement opportunities, and info about “who’s who” at UMS.

King School to Celebrate Renovations with Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

King Elementary School will celebrate the opening of their new renovations with a brief Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Tuesday, August 16th at 8:45 a.m. The ceremony will give parents and community members an opportunity to celebrate the opening of the new renovation and see all of the improvements that have been made to King school.


Tours of the building will be available throughout the morning from 9:00-10:30a.m.
