Open Scene Open MikeJoin the Urbana Public Arts Program and Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center for the next installment of Open Scene Open Mic, a downtown showcase of poetry, spoken word, music, and artistic expression designed to promote community, creativity, and connection! Bring your latest! This month's host is Kvn Tajzea!

Kvn Tajzea is a actor, musician, screenwriter, and the Executive Director of The D.O.S.E. Foundation, a non-profit organization located in Urbana and committed to helping ensure that the theater community becomes a better mirror of the world in which we live.

Open Scene Open Mic is a multigenerational event! Bring the whole family for activities and a chance to showcase talents!

Young Artist's Studio

Young Artists StudioThe Urbana Free Library and Urbana Public Arts Program are jointly sponsoring The Young Artist's Studio, workshops in the Urbana Free Library's Children's Library offering art-making for children ages 5 and up (or younger with an adult helper)!

Join us for the next installment of our Young Artist’s Studio where participants will create their own painted bookmarks through a guided exercise using tissue paper, water, and their own imaginations! Each participant will have a bookmark to take home at the end.

All events in the series are free and open to the public! Arts supplies are provided. Dress comfortably and get ready to roll up those sleeves!

 

Artist of the Corridor Talk with Angela Inez Baldus

Join the Urbana Public Arts Program and The Urbana Free Library for an Artist's Talk from Angela Inez Baldus, our Artist of the Corridor exhibitor with her exhibit, "I LIKE TO JUMP LIKE A HORSE." Join us for refreshments, activities, and a brief talk from the artist for the whole family!

The event will be held at The Urbana Free Library.

Candlestick Lane Starts December 14

The 55th year of Candlestick Lane in Urbana will light up on Saturday, December 8 at 5 p.m.!

The official lighting ceremony for Candlestick Lane will take place on Saturday, December 8 at the north end of Grant Place (the corner of Grant Place and Eastern Drive). To prepare for the ceremony, streets will close to cars at 5 p.m. and will re-open after all homes are lit and the foot traffic has cleared.

According to Charlie Halpin of the Candlestick Lane Committee: "For over half a century, our quaint Urbana neighborhood comes together and celebrates family, friends, our city and this amazing season. Lamplighters go from house to house on opening ceremony to start Candlestick Lane. As the crowd follows and cheers a small Urbana neighborhood inspires and participates in the Holiday traditions of countless families from near and far!! Merry Christmas from Urbana's Candlestick Lane!! "

Coffee with the Mayor

You are invited to join us for coffee, conversation, and a chance to hear news about Urbana. Come to McDonald's, 1705 S Philo Road in Urbana, for a McCafe and a chat! This is an opportunity to talk with the Mayor in a relaxed and comfortable setting. If you would like to discuss issues, share ideas, ask questions, and connect in a friendly, casual environment, please stop by. Mayor Marlin is looking forward to meeting with you! The event is FREE to attend and all are welcome!

The Friends of The Urbana Free Library Fall Book Sale

You’re invited to join hundreds of fellow treasure seekers at one of the most anticipated events of the season, the Friends of The UFL Fall Book Sale. Members of the Friends have access to a special preview on Thursday evening (no electronic devices for scanning will be permitted on preview night). The Fall Book Sale will include a collection of vintage children's books.
