Open Scene Announces Call for Participants:
Now taking applications for stakeholders and youth to join in community collaboration.
Urbana, IL – The City of Urbana and the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center (UCIMC) are thrilled to announce the start of the first phase of Open Scene: Debuts of Youth’s Views in Downtown Urbana.
Do You Have Lights On Your Bicycle So You Can Ride At Night?
Illinois Rules of the Road requires that every bicycle, when in use at nighttime, must be equipped with a lamp on the front able to emit a white light visible from a distance of at least 500 feet AND a red reflector on the rear visible from 100-600 feet.
Come by with your bicycle during the annual “Light the Night” and we’ll install a free front light, rear light and rear reflector on your bike while supplies last. Light sets will only be installed on bicycles without lights.

Please consider attending the 2016 Regional Neighborhood Network Conference (RNNC) which will be held in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, September 29-October 1. This is the 30th anniversary of this grassroots conference and it is a great opportunity for neighborhood leaders and government employees to learn new practices, network with colleagues, and exchange ideas on how to accomplish our shared goals of improving our communities and fostering healthy and strong neighborhoods.

Registration is only $125 and includes extensive workshops, mobile tours, and a networking event at the Colonnades Club on the University of Illinois campus .

The next FREE Countywide Residential Electronics Collection Event will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2016, from 8:00 a.m. until noon at Parkland College (2400 W. Bradley Avenue) in Champaign (you must use the Duncan Road entrance).
THERE IS A TWO (2) TV LIMIT PER VEHICLE, with a 10 item total limit. All types TVs will be accepted at this event. You MUST be a Champaign County resident to attend this event.
The cities of Champaign and Urbana, along with the Champaign-Urbana International Humanitarian Awards Committee have selected the recipients of the 2016 Champaign-Urbana International Humanitarian Awards. The award recipients will be honored on Thursday, September 8th, at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1501 South Neil Street, Champaign. A receiption will begin at 5:45 p.m. and the dinner program will begin at 6:30 p.m.

National Farmers Market Week will take place from August 7-13, 2016, and Urbana’s Market at the Square and The Land Connection’s Champaign Farmers’ Market are joining forces to celebrate local food, local farmers and the power of shopping local. To celebrate the Urbana and Champaign farmers market will offer a “tic-tac-toe” card to participants to complete. A completed card submitted to the Champaign and/or Urbana farmers market will offer the participant a chance to win a gift basket worth over $300 in local goodies. In addition, each farmers market will offer various activities at their respective farmers markets: 
The Champaign Farmers’ Market events will take place throughout the market on Tuesday, August 9 from 4-7pm in the lot at the corner of Neil & Main in Downtown Champaign and include:
Join the Urbana Public Arts Program on Saturday, October 8th, 2016 for music and arts activities at Urbana’s Market at the Square! Find us at the Northwest corner of the market between 8:00am and 12:00pm. All programs offered are free, and no registration is needed.
From 8:00am to 12pm, come freestyle with local artist Carol Farnum. She will bring plywood sheets, spray paint, quarts of paint and brushes/rollers, markers, and stencils to let visitors freestyle however they want. All materials will be safe to use, and visitors of all ages are welcome. Carol will provide direction and technical knowledge, and draw images out for anyone to paint.
Come out to Barnes & Noble to support The Urbana Free Library! This all-day Bookfair will begin on Saturday, July 30, and end in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 31, with the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at midnight. A percentage of what you purchase will benefit The Urbana Free Library.
