Our mission:  The Urbana Public Works Department promotes growth in the City of Urbana by maintaining, constructing and improving the City's infrastructure.  We preserve the quality of life for the citizens, visitors, businesses and government agencies (both within the City and in the surrounding areas).  Our department strives to provide prompt and courteous service in a professional, efficient and cost-effective manner to safeguard the safety, health and welfare of those we serve.

Coler Avenue will be fully opened to traffic, from Washington Street to Green Street, at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014. Illinois Street will be fully opened to traffic, from Orchard Street to Race Street, at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2014. Do you ride your bike at night? Then you gotta have a light! Stop by one of the locations below with your bicycle without a light, and teams of volunteers will install a set free of charge. Light sets will only be installed on bicycles without lights; lights will not be given to individuals . A reflector will also be provided if your bicycle does not have one.

On Saturday, September 13, 2014, the following streets will be closed from 6:00 a.m. to midnight for the International Beer Tasting and Food Truck Showcase: Main Street from Broadway Avenue to Walnut Street Broadway Avenue from Main Street to Elm Street The streets will be fully reopened at midnight. Your patience is appreciated while this event is underway.

G.A. Rich will be installing a new storm sewer at the intersection of North Goodwin Avenue and Park Street as part of the Campus Circle Project. The intersection of North Goodwin Avenue and Park Street will be closed to through traffic beginning Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 7:00 a.m. and ending Thursday, September 25, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., weather permitting.
